Ryuji Imada
Aflac proudly sponsors Ryuji Imada, a professional golfer playing on the U.S. PGA Tour. Imada was born in Mihara, Hiroshima, Japan, and moved to the U.S. when he was 14 to attend a Florida golf academy. He attended the University of Georgia on a golf scholarship. While at Georgia, Imada led the Bulldogs to the 1999 NCAA championship and was runner-up individually en route to All-American honors that year.
Imada turned professional later that year and was on the Nationwide Tour for four seasons, compiling two victories, three runner-up finishes and 39 Top 25’s. In 2004, he earned his PGA Tour card for 2005.
Imada has steadily improved by increasing his yearly earnings and gradually moving up the Official World Golf Rankings. In May 2008, Imada picked up his first career PGA Tour victory at the AT&T Classic in Atlanta, Georgia, besting PGA Tour veteran Kenny Perry on the first playoff hole. For his career to date (August 2008), Imada has compiled one win, three runner-up finishes, 30+ Top 25’s and has surpassed $5 million in career earnings.
Imada currently resides in Tampa, Florida, with his wife, Kanae.
