Jeff Charney
Senior Vice President; Chief Marketing Officer
Jeff Charney is senior vice president, chief marketing officer for Aflac U.S. As CMO, Jeff is responsible for leading the Aflac U.S. operations strategic marketing efforts, which include national advertising, product development, market development, consumer research, sponsorships and corporate communications.
Jeff comes to Aflac from QVC, Inc., one of the largest multimedia retailers in the world. While at QVC, Jeff served as senior vice president and CMO, and was responsible for setting the domestic and international creative marketing vision and direction for the company’s marketing team, which included public relations, marketing, creative services, special events, corporate partnerships, and retail operations.
Prior to joining QVC in 2006, Jeff was a founder of Fringe Ventures LLC, a creative marketing consulting company based on Santa Monica, California. He also held executive-level marketing positions at a range of companies, including serving as senior vice president at the corporate headquarters of Washington Mutual, Homestore, and KB Home, as well as senior-level posts at Rockwell International and Raytheon Company.
Jeff earned a reputation as a pioneer in nontraditional “guerilla” marketing and his creativity has earned more than 50 awards. His work has been honored at the Cannes and Sundance Film festivals and also received White House recognition. He has been named by Advertising Age magazine as one of the nation’s top marketers in two separate industries. Some of his firsts include:
- First national brand launch in QVC’s 21-year history;
- Five corporate identity overhauls;
- First corporate-produced film, Home Movie, produced with acclaimed director Joe Pytka and shown at the Sundance Film Festival
- Development of the “Fringe Quotient”, a questionnaire designed to measure a client’s tolerance for creative risk before any work is developed;
- Development of a show with Oprah Winfery entitled “America’s Next Big Idea”, which sought to identify the nation’s most creative idea generators, inventors and entrepreneurs;
- Unveiling of the nation’s first “cinemercial”; and
- Construction of a life-size replica of the home in The Simpsons for a national promotion.
Jeff holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism (advertising/public relations) from the University of South Carolina and a Master of Arts degree in journalism from Ohio State University.
