Letter from the Aflac CEO
A Letter from Aflac CEO, Dan Amos

Dear shareholders, customers, partners and colleagues,

Aflac was founded on a promise to help provide immediate protection and peace of mind that comes from being prepared for whatever life may bring. We deliver on this promise to millions of policyholders every day. In light of the recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling upholding the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, we want you to know that our voluntary insurance policies are even more relevant and valuable.

Health Care Reform Was Not Intended to Address Supplemental Coverage
Because our policies are not major medical insurance, the changes resulting from health care reform and the U.S. Supreme Court ruling do not have a direct impact on our business or the need for our products. As a way of doing business, we continually enhance and revise our policies to ensure the best possible protection for our policyholders. Because of this, Aflac policies continue to provide invaluable protection for American families in any health care system. We have seen this value in Japan, a country that has had a national health care system for many years. Our policies are highly regarded by the citizens of Japan, and in Japan, Aflac is the No. 1 insurance company for individual policies.

Now, More than Ever, Aflac Provides Invaluable Protection
As you know, Aflac insurance policies help with expenses that major medical insurance does not cover. While major medical covers expenses like doctor visits and prescription costs, Aflac provides insurance for everyday living and out-of-pocket expenses associated with illness or injury. With Aflac, employees can focus on getting better and getting back to work.

Many changes to our health care system have already gone into effect, while others won’t roll out until 2014 and beyond. We will continue to monitor the implementation of health care reform and keep you informed as to how it may affect Aflac. At aflac.com/insights you will find ongoing updates related to benefits and HR issues from the experts here. Additionally, if you have questions about our policies and services, please don’t hesitate to contact your Aflac agent.

As the implementation of health reform continues, I make this promise to you and all who trust in the value of Aflac: No matter what changes come our way with the implementation of health care reform, Aflac will continue as a beacon of hope for Americans who count on us to be there when they need us most.

Sincerely,

Dan Amos, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
