The only Columbus, Ga.-based corporation to make the list, Aflac ranked among the top five companies within its industry. Published annually by FORTUNE, the Most Admired list serves as a definitive report card on corporate reputations. To create the list, executives, directors, and analysts were asked to rate companies in their own industry on eight criteria -- innovation, people management, use of corporate assets, social responsibility, quality of management, financial soundness, long-term investment, and quality of products/services. A total of 616 companies in 68 industries were surveyed over the fourth quarter of 2006.
