Aflac Selected Among the Top 100 Companies in Information Technology

CIO magazine cites company for its innovation for a second consecutive year

COLUMBUS, Ga. – June 19, 2006 – IDG's CIO magazine today announced Aflac as a recipient of the 2006 CIO 100 award. The annual award program recognizes organizations around the world that exemplify the highest level of operational and strategic excellence in information technology (IT).

"Year after year, the CIO 100 award recipients serve as industry role models for business and IT excellence. This year's winners are particularly remarkable for their ability to translate IT innovation into business value and solid ROI," said Abbie Lundberg, editor in chief of CIO magazine.

This is the second consecutive year that Aflac has been selected among the CIO 100. In addition, Aflac has been named by ComputerWorld as one of its Best Places to Work in IT since 1999. Aflac has also earned a place on the Information Week 500 list, a distinction recognizing companies that demonstrate a pattern of technological and organizational innovation.

“We are deeply honored by our inclusion in the CIO 100,” said Gerald Shields, Aflac senior vice president and chief information officer. “An acknowledgment like this is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff.”

The recipients of this year's CIO 100 award were selected through a three-step process. First, companies filled out an online application form detailing their innovative practices in both business and IT. Next, teams of CIO magazine editors and writers reviewed the applications in depth, looking for unique practices and substantial results. Finally, the teams met for a day-long meeting to debate the merits of each nominee and vote on the final 100. Once the top 100 honorees were selected, several honorees were chosen to receive an additional special award.

The 2006 CIO 100 awards will be presented at Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego, on Aug. 22 during the eighth annual CIO 100 Symposium and Awards Ceremony.
