Paul S. Amos will be surrounded by family, including his son, grandson and nephew
Columbus, Ga. – June 14, 2005 – Aflac co-founder Paul S. Amos and his son, Aflac Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Daniel P. Amos are ringing the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange today in honor of the company's year-long 50th Anniversary celebration.
Also attending will be Kriss Cloninger, Aflac's president and chief financial officer, Paul S. Amos II, executive vice president of U.S. Operations, Ken Janke Jr., senior vice president of investor relations and Patricia Bell, second vice president, shareholders services.
“This is a great day for Aflac. Not only are we celebrating our 31st year of being listed on the New York Stock Exchange, but we're recognizing this milestone as part of our year-long 50th anniversary celebration of our company's founding,” Dan Amos said.
Aflac was founded in Columbus, Ga., in 1955 by brothers John, Paul and Bill Amos. Aflac introduced one of the world's first income protection insurance products in 1958 for people diagnosed with cancer. The company initially operated in Georgia and Alabama. By the mid-1960s, Aflac had expanded across much of the Southeast. Aflac continued its expansion throughout the next three decades and now has a presence in all 50 states and Japan.
This is the second time that Paul Amos, Dan Amos and Shelby Amos have attended an opening bell ringing for Aflac. The first time was 31 years ago on June 14, 1974, when Aflac was first listed on the NYSE. Shelby Amos is the son of another Aflac co-founder, the late John Amos. He is also a member of Aflac's board of directors and a state sales coordinator.
For 50 years, Aflac products have given policyholders the opportunity to direct cash where it is needed most when a life-interrupting medical event causes financial challenges. Aflac is the number one provider of guaranteed-renewable insurance in the United States and the number one insurance company in terms of individual insurance policies in force in Japan. Aflac's insurance products provide protection to more than 40 million people worldwide.
