AFLAC Announces Final Roster for 2004 AFLAC All-American High School Baseball Classic

Nation's Elite Players to Square Off on August 6 at Ripken Stadium -

COLUMBUS, Ga., June 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AFLAC announced today the names of 14 rising high school seniors who will complete the 40-man roster for the 2004 AFLAC All-American Baseball Classic, five additional players for the East team and nine for the West. The 2004 AFLAC All-American High School Baseball Classic will be played Friday, August 6 at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen, Md., and televised nationally on FOX Sports Net on Sunday, August 8. All proceeds from the 2004 event will benefit the Division of Pediatric Oncology at the Johns Hopkins Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center in Baltimore. The complete 2004 player roster is included below.

The 2004 final roster announcement comes just two weeks after the Major League Baseball Draft, in which four of the top ten players drafted were members of the 2003 inaugural AFLAC All-American High School Baseball team. Overall, there were ten AFLAC All-Americans drafted in the first round.

AFLAC recently concluded its official multi-city selection tour honoring 24 of the chosen AFLAC All-Americans in 16 cities across the country. The tour kicked off with a press conference by Honorary Chairman Cal Ripken, Jr. at Ripken Stadium on May 1, and concluded with legendary pitcher Roger Clemens presenting three Texas players their official game jerseys at Minute Maid Park in Houston June 17.

"The AFLAC All-American Classic is a great way to showcase amateur baseball throughout the country," said Cal Ripken, Jr. "This game will elevate high school baseball to a new level and inspire all kids to become an AFLAC All-American."

"AFLAC has put together a tremendous showcase for the game of baseball and I am honored to be a part of it," said Roger Clemens. "This is an opportunity to feature tomorrow's Major League Baseball stars on a national level, while raising money and awareness for pediatric cancer. Thanks to AFLAC's support, this game has become the elite high school baseball event in America."

Official selection partners Baseball America and Perfect Game chose the players for their accomplishments both on and off the field, including involvement in the community.
