Carl Edwards And Aflac Soar To Second Consecutive Victory At Homestead-Miami Speedway

Edwards takes back-to-back checkered flags and looks to carry momentum into 2011 season

Columbus, Ga. – Nov. 22, 2010 – Aflac, the No. 1 provider of voluntary insurance in the United States, NASCAR driver Carl Edwards, and the No. 99 Aflac Roush Fenway Racing team wrapped up the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup season on a high note with Edwards taking the checkered flag in the Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. It was the second win in a row for Edwards and the 18th Sprint Cup win of his career.

Edwards’ victory at Homestead-Miami Speedway follows his dominating performance in Phoenix a week earlier, where he won both the Nationwide and Sprint Cup races. The back-to-back wins helped Edwards finish the season fourth in the Sprint Cup point standings behind now five-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion, Jimmie Johnson.

“Ending the season with two wins is an incredible feeling,” said Edwards. “The entire No. 99 Aflac Roush Fenway team stayed focused and finished strong. Now we’ll take this momentum into the off season where we’ll work toward even stronger performance in 2011.”

Edwards battled for the lead throughout the race and began to pull away from the field with 17 laps to go. He took the checkered flag with a 1.608-second margin of victory before doing his signature back flip and going into the stands to celebrate with fans. The Aflac pit crew had a great day as well, winning the Tissot Pit Crew Award for being the fastest crew at Homestead-Miami.

“I know I speak for the entire Aflac Family when I say we’re extremely proud of the No. 99 team, for the past two weeks and for the 2010 season,” said Michael Zuna, Aflac senior vice president and chief marketing officer. “On and off the track, Carl and the team have represented Aflac well. We look forward to seeing what they can do in 2011.”
