COLUMBUS, Ga., June 29, 2010 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ --
Aflac, the company that pays policyholders benefits fast when they are hurt or sick, has made Black Enterprise magazine's list of 40 Best Companies for Diversity for the sixth straight year. The list will be published on the Black Enterprise Web site, as well as in the June 29 print edition of Black Enterprise magazine.
To select the 2010 Best Companies for Diversity, Black Enterprise and B.E. Research surveyed the top 1,000 publicly traded companies and the 100 leading global companies with strong U.S. operations, focusing on activities related to the participation of African Americans and members of other ethnic minority groups. The survey measured companies against four key categories: the percentage of African Americans and minorities holding positions in the employee base, senior management, board of directors; and the percentage of total dollars spent on minority and African-American-owned businesses (Supplier Diversity).
"We are proud that Black Enterprise has recognized Aflac as one of the 40 best companies for diversity for the sixth time," Aflac Chairman and CEO Dan Amos said. "With a market as broad as the supplemental insurance field, a diverse workforce has enabled us to capture a variety of ideas and perspectives that have helped our business grow."
Aflac scored particularly well in the Employee Base category with more African Americans representing more than 30 percent of the workforce while nearly 40 percent of employees are minorities. Women account for a majority of Aflac employees at more than 66 percent.
