On January 1, 2000, the American public got its first glimpse of a new, innovative marketing campaign for a little-known supplemental insurance company in Columbus, Georgia. When a little white duck with little to say, but a lot of personality, stormed upon the scene, it made advertising history and transformed Aflac into an international powerhouse. Aflac’s name recognition soared from 11 percent to 94 percent where it remains today.

Quack Facts:

The Aflac Duck campaign debuted on January 1, 2000, with the television commercial “Park Bench.”

The Aflac Duck has starred in commercials with Yogi Berra, Wayne Newton, Chevy Chase, Melania Trump, and Carl Edwards.

In 2004, the Aflac Duck was inducted into the Advertising Walk of Fame.

The Aflac Duck made an appearance in the movie Lemony Snicket’s  A Series of Unfortunate Events, which starred Jim Carey, Meryl Streep, and Jude Law.

Sales of plush versions of the Aflac Duck have raised millions of dollars for the treatment and research of childhood cancer at hospitals across the country.

The Aflac Duck was named to the PR News Public Relations Hall of Fame in 2011.

In November 2011, the famous Aflac Duck made his debut in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade.
